Caring for Your Jewelry

Follow different instructions for different types of jewelry. See below for specific instructions.

To prevent scratches on jewelry, store each piece separately. Store in a tarnish-free pouch or bag.

Store necklaces and bracelets separately. Always fasten their clasps to reduce the possibility of tangles and knots.

Each piece of jewelry needs to be thoroughly dry after you clean it and before you store it.

All metal, especially silver, tarnishes over time. However, not wearing your jewelry regularly, and/or exposing it to air for extended periods (like leaving it out on a table) can promote tarnish.

Regular wear of your jewelry helps prevent tarnishing because of your body's oils.

Keep your silver and gold jewelry away from household chemicals like bleach, ammonia, rubbing alcohol, fingernail polish, perfume, salt water, chlorine (in swimming pools), hair-dye, and cosmetics. If cleaning jewelry over a sink, plug the drain!

Sterling Silver and 18k gold

Clean your sterling silver or gold jewelry with a soft 100% cotton cloth.

In a clean bowl, create a solution of mild, detergent-free soap (or mild jewelry cleaning solution) and warm (not hot) water. Soak for 10-20 minutes.

Brush metal gently with a soft-bristled brush (worn toothbrush) to remove dust and dirt.

Toothpicks are helpful for small spaces and grooves.

Rub gently in an up-down motion, not in circles. Circular motion can cause scratches.

Rinse with clean water. Dry gently with soft towel to absorb any residual moisture.

Make sure the piece of jewelry is completely dry before storing it.

Antique-finish: special care

Some Lulet jewelry has a special, intentionally-darkened feature called an "antique finish" that accentuates small detail and adds depth. Follow the instructions for cleaning sterling silver. However, do not brush or rub the metal. Never use a tarnish remover (such as silver polish), which will destroy the antique finish.

"Spot clean" the areas that appear dirty or tarnished by using a cotton swab.

Blot jewelry with a soft cloth. Do not rub or press hard.

Saltwater Pearls

After each wear, gently rub pearls with a clean, soft damp or dry absorbent cloth.

Do not use rough pads or hot water to clean pearls. Do not soak pearls in water.

Make sure the entire piece of jewelry is completely dry before storing.

Avoid using harsh detergents, baking soda, salt water, ammonia, or ultrasonic cleaners

Store in a silky bag or box with a soft material.

Remove your pearl ring from your finger by pulling on the shank (metal band).

Avoid getting makeup, perfume, or hairspray on pearls. Put your pearls on last.

Never wear while bathing, swimming, or exercising. Keep away from hot water.

Gemstones and Glass

Rinse bead with warm water and mild soap, and dry with a soft cloth.

Remove ring from your finger by pulling on the shank (metal band) rather than the bead itself.
