“The Past Becomes Present” was inspired while conducting research for “A Moment in Time.”  In “A Moment in Time,” I looked inward at my own identity and questioned where I fit in if had I lived in the past; in “The Past Becomes Present,” I look outward, and explore the identities of historical strangers from the 1860s and 1870s  if they lived in the present.  Changing only hair and makeup, I assigned these unknown women modern personalities and names.  Who would they be if they had total freedom of expression in specifically the year 2015? Would they be the same women that they were 150 years ago? Could they be?
